Since 1894, the Mother Church has contributed both a spiritual and a civic presence to greater Boston. The Church’s headquarters occupy a pivotal location between Boston’s Back Bay and South End neighborhoods. This modern urban complex was completed in 1970 by I.M. Pei, Araldo Cossutta, and Sasaki Associates and is of national architectural significance. The rehabilitation plan improves space utilization and facilitates connections for the church and the general public. The planning effort has guided the revitalization of Boston’s largest perennial garden and the development of a new garden at the entrance to the Mary Baker Eddy Library.
