John Fishback

John Stuart Fishback aspires to positively impact the daily lives of the general public and help build a sense of community though his practice of landscape architecture in the public realm. John’s expertise in technical detailing, documentation, and coordination shapes the complex, urban projects he leads, and shapes the full range of Reed Hilderbrand’s diverse commissions through his role as the firm’s lead quality control advisor. Key projects to which he has contributed include Pier 4 in Boston’s Seaport, Lever House in Manhattan, and the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing. Prior to his practice as a landscape architect, John worked as a freelance artist with a focus on the creation of environments for the performing arts. His practice spanned genres including lighting design and sound design for dance performance, and theatrical set design and construction. This work had a through-line with John’s later discovery of landscape architecture, as both endeavors focus on setting a stage upon which individuals and groups can engage one another and their context. Outside of work, John loves to use his hands to make art and music, is an avid cyclist, and looks forward to sharing meals with family and friends.
