Boston Pier 4 with SHoP Architects

Seasteps descend to Boston Harbor at Pier 4

Reed Hilderbrand is landscape architect for an iconic new waterfront development at Pier 4 in Boston’s Seaport District announced this week by Tishman Speyer and the City of Boston. This reconstructed pier will celebrate the legacy of the city’s industrial past while creating an exciting, diverse experiences along Harbor waterfront. Its park will provide a major amenity to the public and distinguish a nine-story, 100-unit luxury condominium building designed by SHoP Architects. The ground floor of the residential building will feature prominent retail and dining. Also part of the project is a commercial building designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects. A half-acre public plaza will link Pier 4 to the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) and the larger Seaport District.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2015, with planned completion of the commercial building scheduled for late 2017 and the residential building in early2018. The project will pursue LEED gold certification for the project.

Tishman Speyer President and Co-CEO Rob Speyer commented, “Our goal at Pier 4 is to create the brightest jewel of the Boston waterfront. This will be a project entirely worthy of one of the world’s great cities. It will be a magnet for new residents and new businesses, and the local community will be justly proud of it.”
